Ministry of Local Pastors

Local pastors approved annually by the district committee on ordained ministry may be licensed by the bishop to perform all the duties of a pastor including the sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion as well as the service of marriage (where state laws allow), burial, confirmation, and membership reception, within and while appointed to a particular charge or extension ministry.

The United Methodist Church provides many opportunities to serve and be in ministry within the church. Many individuals feel led to become Local Pastors within The United Methodist Church. If you or someone you know is considering this path, we encourage you to check out the information below. You will find helpful information about what a Local Pastor is and what it takes to become one.
